Meet Daniel Lopez Munoz
Senior Concept Artist

Originally from Spain, Daniel has lived in Chicago for seven years now, and has worked at Big Idea for almost three years. In addition to drawing a lot of the concept art on which the final computer models are based, Daniel has also worked with the computers to create virtual models of the pictures he draws!

After getting a college degree in film and animation, Daniel did various projects in traditional cell animation (hand drawn) and stop-motion animation. He taught SoftImage (the computer program used to animate VeggieTales®) at Columbia College, then joined the Big Idea family in 1996.

Daniel loves conceptual art - he says it's the reason he got into animation in the first place. "Since I was a little boy (not that I've done any growing up anyway), I've loved the idea of creating whole new worlds that are bound only by my imagination," he said.

VeggieTales fans may notice Daniel's work in the Silly Song, "The Song of the Cebu!" He made the hand-drawn slides that Larry shows. He also gave the veggies their multi-colored hats in the "VeggieTales Christmas Spectacular" television special.

In Larry-Boy and the Rumor Weed, Daniel's masterpiece is the new and improved Larry-Mobile. Daniel drew the concept art and modeled all the modes of the vehicle on the computer - every last detail!

"There are so many things you learn about yourself, the real world around you, its people and ultimately, the miracle of Creation itself when you get to 'create' your own," Daniel said. "I cannot imagine a better way to spend my life than to explore our world and the world of imagination."
