Meet Joe Sapulich
Art Director / Senior Concept Artist

Joe heads up all that is concept art at Big Idea - the folks who draw the ideas that will later be translated into three dimensional computer images!

Joe started working with Big Idea bout three years ago. A freelance artist for 15 years and an active volunteer in prison outreach, his attention was caught when his adopted son Joshua started watching VeggieTales® videos. He called up Big Idea, and was working here three weeks later!

Joe went to school at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. After going through a glass door in high school and severing tendons in both wrists, doctors discouraged him from pursuing an art career. During the next two years, he struggled to regain his abilities, sometimes tying a pencil to his hand when his wrist wouldn't cooperate.

"When I realized that God loves me more than words could say," Joe said, "my life was changed forever. My art and art direction reflects my relationship with God and is geared to help others enter into His peace."

As art director and senior concept artist, Joe (who is also an ordained minister, and chairman of the board of directors of Freedom In Christ Ministries, a prison-outreach program) has been responsible for the conceptual designs of countless characters, sets and more in the VeggieTales series - from the city of Jericho in Josh and the Big Wall to the Rumor Weed in the latest Larry-Boy adventure! He also worked on the PaxTV "VeggieTales Christmas Spectacular" and the VeggieTales segment at the Young Messiah tour. Now, Joe is hard at work on the next big VeggieTales feature!

At Big Idea, Joe gets to combine his artistic talents and his passion for ministry - "to help people enter into God's presence."
